Most people (as in normal people) would just think iTunes is for buying Music and Video and the main purpose is getting that all to your iPod and the same for the Zune software. People are starting to use the iTunes software for actually watching video and listening to music what it was intended to do…as for the Zune it’s almost unheard of outside of Zune users and the software magic it can do is even out heard of. I have both pieces of software and I’m going to do a comparison of the software as nature intended.
First lets start with the most important and most used things in both pieces of software , obviously music. Well lets see both programs handle it a bit differently. Everyone knows how iTunes Works with the lists and the player above etc.. and the visualizers. It’s extremely old and unattractive I don’t hate it….it’s just musky and old and gray…..Apple Never Ever seems to change their UI’s now a days iOS has been the same for the last what….four years…and iTunes has had a usual bunch of changes but…it’s slowing down… And in the new version EVERYTHING is gray even the icons it’s so….bleak.
Zune know is so much more different… it has a three column view on the start (the collections tab) in order of artists, albums, and songs…in my opinion thats a heck of a lot more productive than iTunes. It’s so clean. From top to bottom you get little word buttons for the settings and the help (that are even fun to use) then you get your account stuff like the one on Xbox Live and Windows Live. Next, is a back button that gets you back to the exact place you were before..then you’ve got the tabs like in the Zune HD UI in order of Quick Play (a fancy home screen) Collection (your music, videos and photos viewer thing), Marketplace (which is like a superstore with apps, music, podcasts, and video) and then the long forgotten social service.
In my humble opinion it’s a million more times more beautiful than the iTunes UI and when your playing music it even does a cool little slide show with text and numbers flying around with the bands photo…it’s a great replacement for visualizers. I just like everything better on Zune the photo viewer is the same as any other photo viewer but, it has that Zune taste….the video player is the same with the Zune touch….I can’t explain…I just love Microsoft’s text UI they’re starting to use on every product….it’s beautiful…. And it has a lot of beautiful visuals and COLORS! iTunes has a too minimalistic approach..no color an effect and it even lags at times…..
The Store on the Zune is much better looking and device management is so much better..Devices have these beautiful animation as does the set up on the software…I don’t know I just really love it. Other than that The Zune just kills Apples dead old and forgotten program (In my world) People need to open up more and let go of the old into the new. Apple racks a disapren.
